This year the
Oakland Unified School District Summer Arts Institute, “Teacher as Artist”, is in its sixth year. It will convene
June 21-24, 2011 at ASCEND School in the Fruitvale section of Oakland. The institute serves K-12 teachers and focuses on providing them with the opportunity to experience the arts personally to develop new hands-on skills, as well as make connections between the arts and their teaching practice. OUSD classroom teachers can attend for free and non-OUSD are welcome to attend for $550. Workshops include: Visual Arts, Music, Theater, Dance, Video Animation, Quiltmaking & Textiles, Superheroes, Arts and Social Justice, and Movement and Theater for Middle and High School Teachers.
