This year the Oakland Unified School District Summer Arts Institute, “Teacher as Artist”, is in its fifth year and was held in a shortened version, June 22-25, 2010. The institute serves K-12 teachers and focuses on providing teachers the opportunity to experience the arts personally to develop new skills, as well as make connections between the arts and their teaching practice. 100 classroom teachers will become in one of the following disciplines: visual arts, music, theater, dance or equity & arts integration.

Location: ASCEND School, the Fruitvale, Oakland, CA  [map]

Each year Summer Institutes expand and enrich our teaching and learning. The Institutes are presented by the Arts Learning Anchor Schools, the Teacher Action Research Institute (2011), and many of our arts provider partners, and range in topic, location and cost.
