Please note that a special timed ticket, for $5, is required for admission to Georgia O'Keeffe and Ansel Adams: Natural Affinities and Richard Avedon: Photographs 1946–2004. SFMOMA members and children 12 and under (with an adult) are admitted free of charge.

Family Activity Days are held on the first Saturday of every month. From October to January, contribute to an ongoing collaborative weaving project that will take shape over the three months it is on display. Or you can embroider a chair! Pre-registration required by phone, 415 227 4888. Free admission for members and kids under 18, $5/adults, $4/seniors. $3 materials donation suggested.

Master printer Emmanuel Montoya will lead this two day workshop. Linoleum relief printing (linocut) follows the same basic principles as woodcut, but in a more accessible and easily carved medium. Because linoleum lacks the grain characteristic of wood, subtler effects and more precise lines can be attained. Linocut is often used as an introduction to relief printing methods. Artists such as Picasso and Matisse, however, were among the first to show that linoleum is a versatile and evocative medium in its own right. Students will work on two linoleum blocks to create their images in traditional relief style. Enrollment is limited to 8 students

Instructor, Emmanuel Montoya, a master printer with the wood and linoleum block, has been teaching for over 25 years. He has been practicing his craft in the Bay Area as an artist for over 35 years. The tradition of contemporary Latin American and Mexican printmakers are his inspiration and one of his influences.

For the exhibition, Rhythm and Hues: Cloth and Culture of Mali, award-winning children's book author, illustrator, and storyteller from Mali, Baba Wagué Diakité, joins us for storytelling and book signing.

This is an Eco Friendly Event and fundraiser for ArtEsteem, an art and emotional literacy program of the Attitudinal Hearling Connection, Inc. The event starts at 5:00 with performances by Winnie Wong & China Spirit Music, Gospel Music, Destiney Knuckles, Taiko Drumming and other local artist. There will be a silent auction featuring art by the children of ArtEsteem. The Event is hosted by Matthew Fox. Matthew will show a film on the Black Madonna and will do a brief talk. The keynote features Marianne Williamson, author and international lecturer on spiritual, personal, education and political issues, Sacred drumming by Kokomon Clottey, special guests include Dr. Jerry Jampolsky and Dr. Diane Cirincione, founders of Attitudinal Healing International. This is an inspiring and engaging evening that demonstrates the can-do-ness of women to save the academic, social and emotional lives of children. The Attitudinal Healing Connection is preventive in its approach in that its mission is to work to eliminate violence, poverty and fear by utilizing creative and educational programs that enhances the imagination, transforms the human spirit and builds peaceful and loving communities for all humanity. “The Hero Within Us: Self As Super Hero” 7-10 pm

“The Hero Within Us: A Night for Heroes” 6-9 pm

Find your inner super hero at RPSC by investigating what special abilities you bring your community. Compose poetry signs inspired by your inner super hero with Opera Piccola's Poetry Youth Leaders. Make yourself a hero cape after taking action on behalf of the arts. Add to a wall of hero actions we plan to take in our community.

“The Hero Within Us: Postcards to Heroes" 6-9 pm

View postcard art that Creative Growth artists have made for their personal heroes. Join the action and make a postcard to your own personal hero! Listen to the band Woom perform on their ingenious instruments made out of everyday and recycled objects. Play along with the band!

Illuminated Art Walk

Every hour a guide riding a bicycle projecting art images will lead an illuminated art walk from venue to venue. The route will go from Rock Paper Scissors Collective to Creative Growth Art Center to 21 Grand and back to Rock Paper Scissors Collective. Gallery goers are encouraged to bring their poetry signs and capes from Rock Paper Scissors Collective on the walk. The Illuminated Art Walk is a project of The Illuminated Corridor.

This event is part of the 2010 Art IS Education 10th Anniversary and is one of the Featured Events within each district of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors coordinated by the Alameda County Arts Commission in partnership with the Alameda County Office of Education. Alameda County Supervisor Carson's Chief of Staff Rodney Brooks, District 5, will be a special guest.

A celebratory performance, featuring noted guest conductors, showcasing how students grow as they progress through elementary, middle and high school music programs.

Artwork by Fremont, Hayward, Newark, and Union City students will be on exhibit as well. Presented by Hayward Arts Council and the Art Association of the East Bay, Inc.

Special guest: Alameda County Supervisor Gail Steele, District 2.

Oakland high school dance students gather in the morning to participate in workshops in various dance forms, then perform student choreography, improvisations, and learned dance works in the afternoon

As part of the 10th Anniversary Celebration of Art is Education - Peralta Elementary School will screen student produced video work as part of the Illuminated Art Walk through Rock Paper Scissors Murmur event. Every hour starting at 7:00, a guide riding a bicycle projecting art images and Peralta movies will lead an illuminated art walk from venue to venue. The route will go from Rock Paper Scissors Collective to Creative Growth Art Center to 21 Grand and back to Rock Paper Scissors Collective. Come out and see our work illuminated along the streets and walkways of Oakland!

The Illuminated Art Walk is a project of The Illuminated Corridor.

The event will include Blood in the Brain excerpts performed by Oakland Tech students and a panel discussion and Q&A featuring actors from both the original Cal Shakes/Intersection co-production of Blood in the Brain and the recent Oakland Tech performances, moderated by Cal Shakes Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone. An informal reception will follow.

Join GROUNDSPARK and TILT for a screening of "Straightlaced: How Gender's Got Us All Tied Up", Debra Chasnoff’s powerful, new documentary. With a fearless look at a highly charged subject, Straightlaced unearths how popular pressures around gender & sexuality are confining American teens. A fascinating array of teenagers open up with brave, intimate honesty about their fears, frustrations, and courage.

Youth who attend the screening have the opportunity to attend a 1-day digital media workshop at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center, where they can create a group PSA inspired by issues addressed in the film.
