Ensuring that every child, in every school in our county has access to arts learning means that policy, training and infrastructure needs to be created at the district level to support that mission. The District Arts Network (formerly known as the MAP or Model Arts Programs Network) was created in 2000 to support the arts learning needs of each of Alameda’s 18 school districts based on the individual district’s current phase of planning or implementation. The Alliance provides districts with mentoring, facilitation and technical assistance in the areas of planning, professional development, advocacy, policy, and resource development. Each year’s collaboration deepens the Alameda County Office of Education’s relationship to the 18 school districts as they move towards sustainable high quality arts learning for every child in every school, every day.

The District Arts Network provides experienced coaches who mentor, facilitate and offer technical assistance to districts and schools to conduct arts learning needs assessments, and develop and implement arts learning plans. Coaches provide support and guidance for assessing and planning for professional development, identifying resources, and developing policy based on parents and administrator values for a high quality education.

The Alliance also provides high quality, research-based professional development that can be customized to meet the needs of schools or districts. All workshops can be designed as part of an after school or set-aside professional development day or grouped together to create full days of training. The workshops can be geared towards the needs of generalists as well as arts specialist teachers. We help teachers link learning in the arts to other subject areas so student learning outcomes are maximized. These workshops have been piloted with local teachers and successfully used by Alameda County schools and districts to advance their instructional practice.

All of these county resources for coaching and professional development are available in a workshop format. To inquire about one of the workshops below or to find out more about the District Arts Network, please contact District Arts Network Coordinator, .
