The Time is Now!

Background
When Congress reconvenes in Fall 2010, they will be considering the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.  On March 13 2010, the Obama administration released a blueprint document that identified its priorities for the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.  Unfortunately, many of the proposals included in the Blueprint are based on federal education systems put in place under the George W. Bush administration’s No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act.

Call to Action
Now is the time to host an event in your community to highlight the critical role of arts-integrated learning in student growth and success.  Use an existing event, such as back to school night or a PTA meeting, or plan a new event as part of national Arts Education Week September 13-17, 2010.

The Time Is Now is a regional initiative of the Alliance for Arts Learning Leadership, coordinated in partnership with 50 States in 50 Days, a national initiative of Americans for the Arts. Be part of the national campaign of the Americans for the Arts Action Fund to organize events throughout the nation that highlight the critical role of the arts in our communities by listing your event at http://www.artsactionfund.org/page/event/create.

Get Involved!
By involving the entire community, we can create the conditions necessary for equitable and engaging classrooms where the experiences and assets of every child are recognized, respected and built upon. The time to make real change in public education that puts an end to a narrow curriculum, an unacceptable drop-out rate, and the racial predictability of success in school is NOW.
